Pipe Conveyor- the new equipment for High Capacity Open Pit Conveying

A new conveyor design is set to help reduce conventional heavy-duty truck traffic and the resulting high operating costs in open pit mines. This article presents the design and the initial findings of the feasibility study on the JZ Creation pipe conveyor for a 350 m-deep open pit mine and a mass flow of 5000 t/h.
A research and development consortium founded by Contitech, Siemens, and Thyssenkrupp will be marketing the jointly develop Chevron-Megapipe conveyor. The high-strength ribbed steel cable conveyor with its nominal strength of up to 9500 N/mm and an outer diameter of up to 900 mm facilitates the cost-effective conveyance of ore and overburden with lump sizes up to 350 mm over mine slopes with angles of inclination of 30° to approx. 45°.

What is a Drive Pulley?

A drive pulley is a pulley that drives or moves a conveyor belt. A good example of a drive pulley is the belt and drive pulley that turns the rotating brushes in an upright vacuum cleaner. In vacuum cleaners, the drive pulley is made up of a drum comprised of a wheel and axle. Pulleys can have belts, chains, cables, or ropes that run over a wheel, which sometimes has a groove to accommodate them.

A pulley is one of the six simple machines, along with an inclined plane, lever, wheel and axle, wedge and screw. Mechanically speaking, a pulley will change the direction of applied force and will transmit this rolling motion to something else. A pulley system can also multiply force.

A drive pulley, in particular, is a powered wheel and axle that moves a conveyor belt. Also called belt conveyors, a conveyor belt is a loop of material that runs between two or more pulleys: drive pulleys and idlers. The purpose of conveyor belts is to move objects along the belt to another location.

In the conveyor belt system, a drive pulley has power applied to it and an idler is a pulley that has no power. The drive pulleys will cause the belt to move toward them, while the idler pulley simply turns over and allows the belt to move. The power can be derived from a motor or can be provided by hand. The larger the materials or goods that are moved by the conveyor built the pulley is powering, the stronger the motor or other power source will need to be that drives the drive pulley.

There are two kinds of conveyor belts that use drive pulleys. These include belts that handle material, like moving products or boxes along in a factory, and those that handle bulk material, like coal or grain. Material conveyor belts are usually found inside, like in a grocery store to move along the items for purchase at checkout. Bulk material belt conveyors are usually found outside.

The belts operated by drive pulleys typically have two or more layers and are usually made of rubber. The inside layer is the strong layer, called the carcass, that is next to the pulley, and the outer layer is called the cover. For strength, the carcass is usually made of cotton or plastic mesh and the cover is rubber or plastic.

Bend Pulley

Bend Pulley

The Bend Pulley is used for changing the direction of the belt.

The Bend Pulley is usually installed at the tail part or the vertical take-up equipment part when the belt direction need to 180°bending. It will be installed above the take-up equipment part while 90°bending .The pulley, which is used for extending the contact surface, is usually used for below or equal to 45 degree bending.

The surface treatment of the bend pulley can be smooth steel and flat rubber lagging.

Drive Pulley

Head/Drive Pulley is located at the discharge terminus of the belt conveyor. It provides the driving force for the conveyor. In order to increase pulley life and traction, it often has a larger diameter than other pulleys.
Jagruti can supply pulleys with hot vulcanized rubber lagging, plain or grooved, as required by client. Different patterns of grooving such as herringbone or diamond can be provided to increase tractive friction under dirty or wet conditions. Diamond grooves have the advantage of being installed in any orientation, regardless of
belt direction.

How Does Assembly Design of a Conveyor Belt Work?

In modern factory operations, the belt conveyors facilitate supply and production of raw goods from one assembly to another with maximum speed accuracy.
The production capacity of modern factory operations have increased significantly as these belt conveyor save valuable time and human efforts to transport goods and materials with maximum efficiency. But what makes these belt conveyors so accurate is the engineering behind the conveyor assembly that drives the conveyor items from one point to another. Below we’ll be discussing about key points about the assembly design of a conveyor belt.
Functions of Conveyor Assembly
The main function of conveyor belts is to move material from one end to another without wasting time and manpower. In modern factory operations the main applications of conveyor assembly lines can be seen in material inspection and dispatch of ready product in packaging stations. The speed of conveyor assemblies can also be manipulated or changed according to the nature of operation to avoid overseeing material or inaccuracy of quality checking during operations.
Features of Conveyor Assembly
A conveyor assembly is comprised of a long rectangular rubber belt placed and driven by two pulleys on each side which rotates on conveyor with help of motors. The conveyor assembly can movie in horizontal, vertical and spiral lines where they drive conveyor movement in singular direction.
Concerns associated With Conveyor Assembly
Since conveyor assemblies can be customized and manipulated in any length, form or direction. It is therefore necessary to designs conveyors depending upon the type, weight and nature of items being transported on the conveyor. Plus! for the operators perspective, the speed should also be customized to meet the working needs of operator to operate conveyor for maximum productivity and peak performance.

How to Calculate Load Torque & Motor Power of the belt conveyor?

Any one can help me to calculate Load Torque and Power Motor for gear box in belt Conveyor  application?

You mean Full load Torque ?

Use this formula-

Full load:

T = HP x 5252/rpm

T = torque (in lb-ft)
HP = horsepower
5252 = constant
rpm = revolutions per minute

In normal modern units :
Power = Torque x radian speed
2 x pi x rpm
kW = kNm x ——————
60 rpm of belt-driving drum or rpm of drive
gearbox ratio = rpm driving drum / rpm drive
etc.

But, may be you are referring to the belt conveyor design, which is much more complicated.
Then it is better to orentate yourself with literature, experts and manufacturers.
success

This is the case

Dear All

Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it. I will explain the case. It’s happened with one of my relation. They have upgraded the conveyor in terms of capacity. Hence it is getting overloaded and unable to move when fully loaded.

Before upgrade:

-Motor : 110 kW
-Gearbox: Citroen 95 kW (P/N 66997, year:1987)
-input/output speed: 1480/64.92 rpm
-Shaft position: Right angle
-Output shaft: solid
-Application: belt conveyor (thick: 10mm, width: 1400mm, long: 370 m)
-Accesories: Backstop
-Motor-gearbox: using fluid coupling

After upgrade: -> New belt convey (thick: 15mm, width: 1400mm, long: 370 m)
or
- Motor : 150 kW
-Gearbox: Citroen 95 kW (P/N 66997, year:1987)
-input/output speed: 1480/64.92 rpm
-Shaft position: Right angle
-Output shaft: solid
-Accesories: Backstop
-Motor-gearbox: using fluid coupling

The problem after upgrade is that new belt conveyor which is more thick caused more load to the drive system. Hence, if conveyor in full load condition and stopped, the drive system can move the conveyor. They want me to give a proove that changing the Power of Motor won’t solve this problem. So, I should know how to calculate the Motor Power and Torque?

But for the belt density, I really don’t know because they just give me an additional data:

- Lime stone density: 2 ton/m3
- Belt density: 1.2 ton/m3
- Max lime stone above conveyor: 111 m3
- Pulley radius: 0.4055 m

If there is any additional data needed, don’t hesitate to contact me soon. Thank you very much.

Neodymium Magnets for pickups Incoming

Well, as the title says, i’ve got myself a pack of neodymium magnets from everbeen magnets will coming soon. They’re 1/8 by 1/2 inch and are grade N48. I intend to use them to make myself some homemade pickups. It’s the first time i’m going through this process and i thought neodymium would make a good challenge for a first time since there is almost no information available on the net about how to use them to make pickups.

This is my first time making pickups, and especially with this material; I’m wondering if there is any tips, advice, direction or whatever you could tell me to help with the process, and i’m not talking about the general building process, which I’ve read a few hours about. But more specifics about how to use neodymium magnets in particular.

How to Regrow Hair in Women

Hair loss is frequently fairly easy to fix–if you know the cause of it.

In women, hair loss is usually associated with hormonal changes. By adjusting the way your body produces hormones or responds to these changes, you can regrow your hair and get thicker and fuller hair in the bargain. However, since hair loss can signify a number of health problems, be sure to work with your doctor to insure that regrowing your hair is not not simply masking a larger issue.

Instructions

1

Identify the problem. Contact your doctor and work with them to eliminate major health issues. Hair loss often indicates thyroid problems or major hormone changes due to menopause. It is possible that treating these issues will resolve your hair loss without further action on your part.

2

Nourish your hair from within. One of the reasons many pregnant women appear to “glow” is that their hair becomes long, thick and lush due to prenatal vitamins. However, you do not have to get pregnant to regrow your hair. Hair vitamins do the same thing as neonatal vitamins, but are designed for use by women who are not pregnant. Insuring that your hair is getting the nourishment it needs is the first step to thicker, fuller hair.

3

Stay hydrated. Particularly in winter months when the climate is hard on hair anyway, staying hydrated is vitally important if you want to delay or halt hair loss. Make sure that you are drinking plenty of water. This will strengthen existing hair and alleviate hair loss.

4

Try a potato hair mask. Potatoes have been a popular and natural hair loss treatment for years. Apply a blend of mashed potatoes, one egg yolk, one teaspoon of vegetable oil, one teaspoon of liquid honey and a tea-spoon of fine salt to your scalp once a week. You could get results in as little as a month.

5

Relax. The most common cause for hair loss is stress. Particularly if you fiddle with your hair when you are stressed out, you may actually be causing your own hair loss problem. Take time each day to meditate or take a scheduled break from your hectic schedule to calm and sooth yourself–perhaps with a hot cup or tea or aroma-therapeutic bath.

The Average Cost of Hair Transplant Surgery

Instructions

1

Schedule a consultation with a hair loss specialist in your area. You can search for specialists on your own or speak with your primary care physician to get referrals to some surgeons.

2

Discuss your expectations with the hair loss specialist. The extent of your hair loss and your expectations for the procedure will determine how much surgery is necessary. Most hair transplant surgeries available today are priced per graft and can involve more than a thousand grafts, causing the procedure to be quite pricey.

3

Assess the amount that you can afford to pay upfront. The more that you are able to pay at the time of the hair transplant, the less that you will have to finance. In total, this will result in your paying less in finance charges.

4

Speak with your hair loss surgeon about the financing options that his office offers its patients. Hair loss specialists often have special arrangements with financial companies, as their patients may not be able to afford to pay for the full cost of surgery.

5

Compare the financing options available directly through your surgeon with competing health care financing plans from companies like Unicorn Financial, Care Credit and Capital One (see Resources below). In addition to comparing the terms over which you need to pay the cost of your surgery and the interest rates, make sure you check whether there is a grace period during which you are not charged any interest at all.

6

Complete an application for the financing plan of your choice. Be sure to request a line of credit that will allow you to cover the cost of your hair transplant surgery.

1

Read the owner’s manual for your electric nose trimmer prior to starting, so that you will understand all of the features and controls. The owner’s manual may also provide effective tips on how to get better results when you use an electric nose hair trimmer.

2

Use a lighted mirror with magnifying capabilities when you use electric nose hair trimmers for the most thorough and effective trim. At the very least, use the trimmers in a well-lighted location such as a bathroom, or any room that has fluorescent lighting.

3

Clean your nose thoroughly with a warm, wet washcloth before you use an electric nose trimmer. This will help to remove any dirt or debris that may be hiding in your nostrils. It might also be a good idea to blow your nose, too, to reduce the sneezing reflex as you cut your nose hairs.

4

Insert the electric nose hair trimmer at the entry of your nostrils and turn it on. Start with the lower hairs first, and trim to the point where your nose air is no longer easily visible when you look straight ahead. Use your fingers to pull the tip of your nose from side to side to trim that hard to reach area at the very front edge of your nostril, toward the center of your nose.

5

Take a break every minute or two to keep the sneezing reflex from becoming too strong. Note that it is common for your eyes to water a little whenever you trim nose hairs, whether you are using tweezers or an electric trimmer.

6

Use electric nose hair trimmers for other parts of your body, including your ears and the side of your neck below the shaving line. Many nose hair trimmers were designed to be used on your ears as well.

Your hair should be darker in color almost immediately but you may need to continue the process until you reach the color you want.

How to Treat Hair Loss During Pregnancy

Treat Hair Loss During Pregnancy

While some women experience healthier-than-normal hair during their pregnancy, there are those who suffer from hair loss. While pregnancy-related hair loss is most likely the result of fluctuating hormone levels and is completely normal, it can be embarrassing and stressful for a woman. However, there are steps you can take to treat hair loss during pregnancy.

Instructions

1

Talk to your doctor. If you are experiencing hair loss, it is most likely the result of fluctuating estrogen level. Your physician may be able to check your hormone levels and, if necessary, prescribe additional vitamin or mineral supplements. At the very least, she can reassure you that some hair loss is normal.

2

Reduce your anxiety. Stress plays a big role in your body’s overall health, including the health of your hair. Feeling stressed out can actually increase the amount of hair loss.

3

Eat well. Pregnancy-related hair loss can be a symptom of a diet deficient in essential vitamins and nutrients. Make sure that you are eating a well-balanced diet, with plenty fruits and vegetables, and taking any vitamin supplements your doctor has prescribed.

4

Avoid frequent hair washings, and refrain from over-styling your hair. You may even want to consider a short style until at least 6 months postpartum, when estrogen levels return to normal and hair loss is minimized.

How to Treat Damaged Black Hair

Black, or African American, hair is a different texture than Caucasian, Asian and Hispanic hair. The texture of the hair prevents the natural oils from the scalp from reaching the hair shaft. Thus, black hair tends to be very dry. Overprocessing and the use of heating tools can greatly damage black hair by causing it to become dehydrated, brittle and prone to breakage. Reversing the damage takes time and requires the use of highly moisturizing products.

Instructions

1

Condition hair on a daily basis. Wet hair, apply the conditioner and leave on for about three minutes then rinse out. Limit washing the hair to two to three times a week. Shampooing further strips natural oils, making damaged black hair even more dehydrated and brittle. Conditioning, on the other hand, is essential to repairing damaged cuticles by restoring moisture to the hair shaft and eliminating unattractive frizz.

2

Coat the tips of the hair with a leave-in conditioner to seal split ends. A leave-in conditioner will also restore shine and elasticity to parched and fried locks. Use it every time you wash your hair after using a rinse-out conditioner. You can also use a leave-in conditioner daily on wet or dry hair.

3

Wrap hair with a satin scarf before bedtime. Satin prevents hair from developing split ends and reduces breakage that can occur when hair rubs against harsher fabrics. It will also help seal in moisture and prevent damaged hair from becoming worse. Cover pillow with a satin case if you don’t have a satin hair scarf.

4

Detangle hair in the shower while it’s still wet and pliable. Use a wide tooth comb to prevent breakage. A fine tooth comb can cause dehydrated hair to break apart at the shaft leading to hair loss. Avoid using a comb on dry hair as it can also lead to breakage.

5

Use a hot oil treatment once a month. This treatment is the best substitute for the natural oils produced by the scalp. Apply from roots to tips to soften and repair the entire hair shaft.

How to Organize a Hair Show

Hair shows can introduce trendy styles to the public.

Modern bobs, wild mohawks and gothic and punk cuts are the kinds of hairstyles found at a hair show. Salons often conduct hair shows to introduce their products, cutting methods and expertise to the general public and sometimes offer styling sessions free-of-charge. Hair shows may also offer basic education on how to take care of different types of hair in addition to introducing new hair trends. A successful hair show requires preparation, advertising and the right location.

How to Get Sponsors for Your Event

Instructions

1

Determine the theme and purpose of your hair show. Some hair shows are limited to demonstrations of hair styles on live models. Other shows include makeup skills demonstrations, barbering skills workshops, styling competitions, professional speakers, free styling sessions and vendor stalls that sell hair products.

2

Write an action plan that delineates all the tasks that need to be completed prior to the show. These tasks may include creating a budget, finding sponsors, securing speakers and hiring hair models.

3

Make a budget for the hair show event. To save money, consider inviting other salons to co-host the event and share in the costs. Budgetary items include the cost of hiring models and professional speakers, the cost of a venue and food and drinks. The price of attendance and products on sale will be determined by your total budget, because these are two of your biggest revenue generators.

4

Create sponsorship packages. To attract corporate sponsors for your event, you need to have two or three sponsorship packages with clearly-defined benefits. For example, you can reserve a "Five Star Sponsor" package for any organization that contributes $15,000 or more, with benefits such as premium company advertising, a stage presentation, company name and logo prominently displayed on all hair show marketing items and V.I.P. tickets to the event.

5

Visit possible venues in your community. Hair shows are often held in locations such as convention centers and hotel ballrooms.

6

Market your event. Create a website and social media page to generate online interest in the hair show. Make color brochures for the event and hand them out at local malls and salons. Advertise in fashion and hair care magazines.

7

Hire hair models and book professional speakers for the event. Select models of different ethnicities with varying hair length and texture to maximize the different styles you can demonstrate at the show. If your show includes competitions, you must also hire judges to officiate.

8

Finalize the order of events and confirm that all speakers, sponsors and vendors are participating.

9

Print out your official show guide, which includes paid advertisements and photos of the venue. Send the official guide to all sponsors, speakers and vendors.

How to Straighten Nappy Hair

Hair is one of the mankind’s greatest accessories. Male or female, a head of wild, frizzy and nappy hair is generally not a flattering look. Silky, straight hair is more manageable and generally more sophisticated in appearance. You may straighten nappy hair several different ways with varying levels of permanence. Daily straightening lasts until you wash it again, while permanent straightening is permanent only to the hair that has been treated, making a repeat treatment necessary as new hair grows in. Different types of nappy hair are more or less resistant to some techniques, but the majority of them can be straightened.

How to Grow Longer Hair Faster

Healthy care of your hair will make it grow longer faster.

How to Grow Longer Hair in 30 Days

Instructions

1

Shampoo your hair every two to three days. Shampooing more often strips your hair and scalp of natural and essential oils that it needs to grow. Do not brush your hair vigorously, instead use a wide-toothed shower comb to comb out wet hair as well as dry hair. This will keep hair from being tugged on and falling out which causes breakage and stunts growth.

2

Massage your scalp daily. This stimulates growth by keeping the blood flowing to your roots and helps your hair grow faster. You may also massage your scalp while shampooing.

3

Do not wear your hair in a ponytail or updo daily. Save these styles for special occasions as your hair needs time to breathe and be free-flowing. Hair that is pulled tightly strains the roots and causes it to fall out. Hair will not grow faster if it is constantly falling out and growing back in.

4

Use the proper shampoo and conditioner for your hair type. Take time selecting your hair care products and make sure they are right for your hair. This will stimulate your hair’s growth and allow it to grow faster.

5

Limit your use of heat styling products such as blowdryers, curling irons and straighteners. Heat damages hair, and too much heat will retard your hair’s growth. Overuse of hair color, highlighters and lighteners also puts a strain on your hair and causes it to become dry and break.

Check the hair to see if it straightened. If it still has frizz and curls, dampen the hair slightly with water and add a small dot of hair conditioner. Comb the hair and again pour boiling water over it. Now gently comb the hair once more.

Repeat the process as necessary to achieve straight Barbie hair.

How to Spin Cat Hair

Spin Cat Hair

Would you rather have a beautiful hat or pair of mittens made from your cat’s hair rather than just dumping all the hair in the trash every time you brush your pet? In a few simple steps, you can create yarn from your cat’s hair that can be used for knitting, crocheting, weaving or other crafts. With some basic knowledge of spinning on a spindle or spinning wheel, you can make a fuzzy, soft yarn that is unique to your cat and will become something with which to always remember your feline friend.

1

Gather hair from your cat. Hair acquired by brushing is better than hair that has been cut, because it will be longer and easier to spin. The hair should be clean, free from grass or other vegetable matter, and free from fleas and bugs. Be sure it smells fresh and clean, the way you want the finished yarn to smell — not like flea shampoo or another less desirable fragrance.

2

Use the hand carders to prepare the hair for spinning. Combine it with any other fiber desired, such as merino wool, or use the cat hair alone. Card the hair or fiber blend and form it into rolags by gently rolling the mass of fiber from the hand carders so the fibers are parallel.

3

Spin the rolags into yarn using your drop spindle or spinning wheel. (If you do not know how to spin, see the Resources below for links to basic information on spinning. You can also have your cat’s hair processed into yarn by companies that provide this service.) Add a lot of twist when spinning, as cat hair is very fine and will require a lot of twist to hold together. You do not want the yarn to shed like a cat when it is later made into a garment or other finished item.

4

Ply the yarn if desired. You can ply the singles you have spun in Step 3 with themselves or with another yarn to increase the overall yardage you can use to knit, crochet or weave.

5

Wind the yarn into a skein, and tie it loosely with scrap yarn in six to eight places. Finish the yarn by soaking it in cool water for a half-hour, then roll the skein in a towel and press to remove the excess water (do not wring it out). If your finished yarn is strong enough, snap the skein between your hands, or swing it through the air and smack it on a countertop or against the side of the bathtub. This motion will allow the fibers to “bloom” and reveal the beauty of your completed yarn.

How to Dress for Burning Man

Protect yourself from the elements with the right Burning Man wardrobe.

You’ve finally decided to go to Burning Man. You’ve chosen your theme camp and stocked up on water from your local bulk warehouse. You’ve bought a tent, packed your sleeping bag, and checked your air mattress for holes. Now it’s time for the fun part: the clothes.

1

Dare to be different. Burning Man is a time to leave the "default world" behind and try something new. Maybe last week you were an office manager in casual business attire, but at Burning Man you’re a barber at the Scissor Farm in a white lab coat and not much more. Perhaps you spend your weekends lounging on the couch in a T-shirt and your favorite pair of jeans, but at Burning man you’ll be swing dancing on top of a double-decker bus in shiny silver pants and a large pink and purple fur coat. This is a time to forget all those fashion rules and just have fun.

2

Consider the bare essentials and go nude. Many take advantage of the desert’s sunny days and just let it all hang out. Black Rock City just wouldn’t be complete without its naked residents. Try shedding your clothes along with your inhibitions and you may discover that you’re more of a free spirit than you realized. You’re sure to find a body-painting camp that will decorate your body with anything from flowers and peace signs to tiger stripes and polka dots.

3

Wear a costume. You never know when you’re going to be invited to a robot prom or a superhero soiree. Wearing a costume is a great way to get into the spirit of the many unique events you’ll find at Burning Man. A truly unique or memorable costume might even earn you a "Playa Name," so don’t be surprised if all of your new friends only know you as Supergirl by the end of the week.

4

Beat the heat — there’s no getting away from it because days at Burning Man are hot, hot, hot. Bring along comfortable shorts, bathing suit tops, and a wide-brimmed hat. Skirts are a great way to stay cool, and it’s not uncommon to see even men sporting a sarong or kilt in the hot sun.

5

Snuggle up with warm night attire. The Black Rock Desert may have some sweltering days, but don’t forget about those chilly nights. Nighttime temperatures can get down in the 40s. Burners keep warm in style with faux fur duds in every color and style imaginable. Check your local fabric stores for fabrics that are not only warm and fuzzy, but also wild and colorful. Some cities with large Burner populations even have special Burning Man sales and sections in the months prior to the event. You can try your hand at sewing a big cuddly coat or a snuggly pair of pants, or have a friend help you out.

How to Dress for Travel in Paris

Leave your flip-flops and sports jerseys at home when visiting Paris.

The City of Lights is a very fashion-forward city, where tourists can stand out like sore thumbs in their fanny packs, Bermuda shorts and discount-bin flip-flops. When you pack for your trip to this fashion capital, you might be swayed by two different mindsets. One side of you will want comfort and practicality, but the other side will likely want to use the opportunity to dress up and be a part of the stylish climate that gave birth to haute couture. The good news is you can do both–you just need to pack sensibly and make minor changes to what you consider “casual.”

How to Dress in Paris

Instructions

1

Upgrade your sense of casual. Leave your athletic, workout gear at home unless you intend to visit a gym. Wearing sweatpants and tennis shoes may be a comfortable way to get around the city, but it’s not a very fashionable one. White tennis shoes, even brand new ones, are particularly frowned upon. Invest instead in comfortable walking shoes and wear clothes made of natural fabrics that breathe. Jeans are OK, provided they fit well. Leave all baggy, ill-fitting clothes at home.

2

Prepare for the seasons. In the summer you will be able to wear shoes like flip-flops, but take cues from Parisians who wear the more fashionable sort with a heel, straps or a touch of “bling.” Boots are the footwear of choice in the winter in Paris, and you will need to layer your clothes so you can easily add to or take away from your outfit as the situation warrants.

3

Accessorize. The French have mastered the art of the ensemble. A simple scarf can go a long way in dressing up a casual outfit for a night out on the town, and as such scarves are pretty much a Parisian staple of almost all fashion no matter the hour of the day or the season. Sunglasses and hats can help both men and women visiting in Paris look their most stylish. These accessories also take up less room in your suitcase than an assortment of different outfits.

4

Know how to mix and match. Take a few quality items that can be worn in a variety of ways, from the casual to the dressy. Keep it neutral and leave the flashy stuff to a touch of bling from your jewelry or color from your accessories.

5

Keep it simple. Parisian style isn’t about the most ostentatious dresser, it’s about the person who knows how to touch up a classic style with a certain “je ne sais quoi,” or stamp of individuality. Always remember to pack your basic black outfit, especially a black dress for the female traveler. These sleek, classic dresses can slenderize your silhouette and give you a dressier look with little effort.

6

Opt for an “au natural” look when it comes to your makeup and hairstyle. French women prefer a more natural look than the over-styled sensibilities of their American counterparts. Pack just a basic foundation and some blush, as well as some lipstick to achieve a more radiant, natural look rather than flashy cosmetics. Also consider the classic chignon hairstyle, which pulls the hair back away from the face but is a stylish step above a ponytail.

7

Show respect. Parisians favor those travelers who show respect for the sophistication of their city, and respect for their culture. This is especially true in places of worship, where women should make an effort to cover bare shoulders and legs before entering. Men can usually leave their ties at home, unless the trip is business related, or more elegant evenings out are planned. Usually a nice suit jacket suffices.

How to Dress Semi-Formally in Cold Weather

Dressing warmly but fashionably presents a challenge.

Dressing in semi-formal attire can present a problem during cold seasons, especially for women. If you have to spend any amount of time outside in today’s fashionable sleeveless styles and short hems in the winter, you are exposed to the elements and frigid temperatures. For men, the problem is not quite so severe since most semi-formal men’s attire features long sleeves, pants, socks and jackets. If you are a woman who lives in a cold climate and you plan to attend a semi-formal event, consider taking precautions to ensure you don’t suffer from hypothermia before you reach your destination.

1

Check the weather report for the date of your engagement. If you will be outside for any length of time, consider wearing a long dress, pantsuit or dressy slacks that permit you to wear stockings or tights underneath to keep your legs warm.

2

Purchase a dress made from a warm fabric such as a wool blend, cashmere or knit if you must wear a short dress. Your legs will be visible, and tights are generally too casual for semi-formal attire, but you can wear thicker hosiery to keep your legs warm.

3

Don’t wear a flimsy lightweight jacket with your dress; instead, wear a long coat. Alternatively, wear a fashionable cloak, cape or a thick wrap.

4

Consider wearing a body-hugging, tight-fitting undergarment beneath your dress, which can serve two purposes during winter months: It can keep the line of your body slim, while its layers create layers to maintain body heat.

5

Wrap a heavy fashionable scarf around your neck for added warmth and wear some stylish gloves. Not only are scarves chic and stylish, but when you keep your neck warm, your body stays warm. If the weather turns windy and colder, bring the scarf up over your head.

How to Dress for Casual Friday

Dress for Casual Friday

Many companies allow for casual dress on Fridays. While this isn’t the case at all workplaces, it’s a growing trend around the country. If you have recently started a job that offers casual Friday, it can be something to look forward to at the end of the week. But not knowing how to dress for it can sometimes make it more of a headache than a bonus.

Instructions

1

Read your employee handbook to find out what is and isn’t acceptable attire for casual Friday. Follow the guidelines closely, as you don’t want to risk your reputation or even your job on something as trivial as what you wear.

2

Ask co-workers about their experiences with casual Friday. An especially good source is a co-worker who has worked at the company for a long time. Ask what types of clothing they normally wear to get a firm grasp on the restrictions.

3

Stay professional even if it’s casual Friday. You don’t want to dress too casual as that isn’t appropriate for most companies. You can wear less formal clothes, but you want to retain a level of professionalism.

4

Select a sweater set and knit pants. This is a great outfit for women to stay stylish on casual Friday. You can also choose a casual skirt, however don’t pick anything shorter than an inch above the knee. Ballet flats or low heels are also appropriate. Men should choose khaki pants and a sweater or button down shirt. This is always a safe bet for casual Friday for men. Tuck your shirt in and wear a pair of loafers or lace up leather shoes.

5

Bring a change of clothes in your car in case you get called to meet a client or attend a business meeting. If you need to change clothes for whatever other reason, you can be prepared for anything by bringing a suit or other more corporate clothes to change into in an emergency.

How to Dress Fratty

Button-down shirts and khaki pants are a fraternity students’s staple clothing.

Young men have several items to buy to prepare for life in college but some of the most important will be their clothes. Dressing in the proper manner to fit in and look relaxed at the same time is the goal of many male students who seek the fraternity look. Gone are the days of slouchy jeans, tennis shoes and torn T-shirts. For the fratty look, they have been replaced by clothing that possesses a casual but understated elegance.

Shirts, Jackets and Coats

For a more laid-back look during school hours, polo shirts, both with short and long sleeves, are the easy-to-wear option for the fraternity look. Ripped, sleeveless, faded and worn T-shirts are not fashion essentials. For a dressy and still understated style, button-down shirts are the popular choice. In both the polo and button-down styles, quality and a good fit are essential to achieve that preppy, upscale appearance. Shirts must be tucked in at all times. Sweatshirts are only for athletic wear and should be replaced by fleece jackets or pullovers, blazers or a casual leather jacket. A trench coat is a long-term investment that will last a student years into the working world.

Slacks and Jeans

Jeans are still a wardrobe necessity, but they must fit well and sit at the mid-waist. They can be a dark or medium blue and be a high quality brand. Low-riding, distressed or faded jeans will not make the grade with the frat look. For a dressier appearance, plain khaki, navy or black pants will go well with both polo and button-down shirts. A plain but well made belt is a necessity with any pants.

Dressing Up

A plain dark suit is a necessary item for awards programs, special dances or dinner dates. The best type of suiting material would be wool, although it could be traded in for linen during the warmer months if necessary. For the more formal occasion, a classic black tuxedo would be an essential — if funds are not available to buy this ensemble, renting is always a viable option.

Footwear

In the past, athletic footwear was widely accepted as the shoe of choice for college students. Dressing fratty would relegate this footwear to be worn only for sports. Casual leather loafers are the college norm for the fraternity style. They can be boat shoes such as Sperrys or plain, square-toed leather slip-ons. Moccasins are also acceptable for the more casual occasion. Formal footwear would be dressy plain or tassled black shoes.
